Everyone at the Heredis worker cooperative is excited to start the new year with you and wishes you the very best. We felt like saying a few words about this quite "special" year we have just been through. Despite the difficulties, loneliness, or even sadness that prevailed, 2020 remains an exceptional year because everything about it was so out of the ordinary.
What will be remembered about this unusual year in 10, 20, or even 50 years from now?
2020 has just written its last page and we thought we should keep it vivid in our memories. A bit in the way you do it after losing a loved one. We should mourn without forgetting and be able to transmit everything we have experienced, everything that has happened, everything it has been like. Which is exactly what we are doing when working on our genealogy.
This is why the lyrics of this song by Queen have echoed loudly within me to the point I decided to share it with you on this first day of the year:
"Take this letter that I give you
Take it sonny hold it high
You won't understand a word that's in it
But you'll write it all again before you die"

So, I don't know what you will make out of 2020, but here, at Heredis, some of us have already started to carve it in stone...
I have written a few pages in a notebook dedicated to my daughters about our days during the "confinement" (lockdown) to describe to them what we did, what was going on, under what circumstances we could go out, see our loved ones... hoping that, later in time, it would give them an idea of what this unprecedented period was like. I have printed a book with the most striking photos of this period, highlighting our activities, the dishes we cooked, the video calls we had with the family... (Aude)
In my Heredis software, I have described the various events that occurred to all my contemporaries in 2020. (Hélène)
I have performed quite a few songs with some musician friends - remotely - and I have made them available to all on the web so as to share my passion and leave something meaningful behind. (Philippe)
